Tragedy struck at the Jedu Technical and Vocational Institute in Wamahinso, Asutifi North, Ahafo Region, as Diana Oppong, a 17-year-old second-year student, lost her life allegedly due to the actions of her boyfriend.
The unfortunate incident occurred on July 18, 2023, when Diana’s boyfriend, identified only as Kofi, reportedly assaulted her severely following a disagreement regarding a purported pregnancy.
As a result of the beating, Diana collapsed, but she managed to regain consciousness and promptly reported the incident at the Terchire police station. There, she was provided with a police medical form to seek medical attention.
Initially treated at the Terchire Health Centre, her condition worsened, necessitating her transfer to the St. John of God Hospital in Duayaw Nkwanta. Eventually, she was moved to the Sunyani Regional Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries on Saturday, July 29, 2023.
The grandfather of the deceased, Mr. Boakye Yiadom, expressed his devastation over Diana’s passing. She had a promising future ahead and was dearly loved by her family and the community.
The suspect, Kofi, has been arrested and brought before the Duayaw Nkwanta Magistrate Court. He has been remanded for two weeks and is scheduled to reappear in court on August 11, 2023.
The grieving family is appealing for justice to be served, and they hope the authorities will ensure that the perpetrator faces the full consequences of his actions.
