Champions League Final: Chelsea vs Manchester City Betting Tip And Match Preview

The Champions League Final has been moved from Turkey to Portugal and that will mean at least some of the English fans can travel to support Manchester City and Chelsea in what is the third all-English European Cup Final.

Manchester City will face Chelsea in this season’s UEFA Champions League final.

Manchester City News

Manchester City have the bit between their teeth in Europe this season. Their attacking brilliance is long-established, but they’ve added greater defensive solidity, with only four goals conceded in their 12 games played so far.

If overcoming their quarter-final hoodoo was a boost to their self-belief, the manner of their semi-final triumph against Paris has surely banished any doubts about City’s ability to go all the way.

Manchester City have won 35 of their last 40 games played in all competitions, although the exceptions have all been defeats. One concern is that 2 of those 5 losses have come against Chelsea, but the side have won 21 of their last 23 games played away from the Etihad Stadium.

Chelsea News

Beaten only five times since Thomas Tuchel took charge, Chelsea really are starting to gel under their German coach. If the front players can continue their progress of the past few months, there is nothing – and no one – for Chelsea to fear.

Chelsea have won 1 of their last 4 games in all competitions, but it was a vital victory in the Premier League over Leicester City which proved pivotal in securing a top four finish. However, the concern for Chelsea is that they have lost 3 of their last 4 games and only scored once in those defeats. Chelsea have lost 3 of their last 7 games played away from Stamford Bridge.

Edouard Mendy picked up a knock against Aston Villa and is a doubt, although Thomas Tuchel sounded positive about his availability for Saturday’s Champions League Final. N’Golo Kante is another looking like he will be available for selection.

The Champions League Final has been moved from Turkey to Portugal and that will mean at least some of the English fans can travel to support Manchester City and Chelsea in what is the third all-English European Cup Final.

Chelsea lost the first of those to Manchester United in Moscow in 2008, but they will feel pretty good about their chances of bringing home a second European Cup. That is largely down to the fact that they have beaten Manchester City twice over the last six weeks with a win over this opponent in the FA Cup Semi-Final and Premier League and on both occasions Chelsea would have been the underdog.

The same applies here on Saturday, but Chelsea’s form has nosedived in recent weeks and they were fortunate to finish in the top four of the Premier League. 3 losses in their last 4 games has just dented the momentum that had been earned and Chelsea also lost the FA Cup Final at that time which will have hurt the players.

Now they have to take on a Manchester City team that is coming in off a 5-0 hammering of Everton and who look as healthy as they can be at this stage of the season. Pep Guardiola has options and he will feel his team were very unlucky to lose to Chelsea in the Premier League and a similar level of performance should be enough to turn the tables.

Chelsea do have the mental edge and I think that is important, but Manchester City are the better team and I expect them to be more clinical than they were in the 1-2 defeat in the Premier League. A weaker Manchester City lost the FA Cup Semi-Final to Chelsea, but I think their top names look healthy and in a better position than Chelsea’s to capitalize on this opportunity.

While Chelsea have looked good going forward, they have not shown a clinical edge which has to be a concern for Thomas Tuchel. Tactically the German manager is going to make life tough for Pep Guardiola, but the latter’s team might be more settled and full of belief than their Chelsea counterparts.

Both teams will feel they can create chances to hurt the other in this one and I think there will be goals scored with Manchester City and Chelsea likely to get on the board.

However, when it is all said and done, I think Chelsea have just struggled down the stretch and may need more work to win a game of this magnitude. Thomas Tuchel’s Paris Saint-Germain lost the Champions League Final in Portugal last season and it may be a case of history repeating on the manager on Saturday.

The Pick :

Manchester City 2-1 Chelsea
