Nollywood actress Etinosa Idemudia has opened up about resorting to substance abuse as a means to escape the abuse inflicted by her estranged husband.
In a conversation with renowned media personality Chude Jideonwo, the actress revealed that her young age of 22 at the time of marriage made her naive, with her husband asserting himself as the dominant figure in their relationship.
Etinosa recounted the fear she experienced whenever her husband returned home, which led her to resort to drugs.
She shared, “It [the domestic violence] got to a point where I was on drugs. Whenever he [my ex-husband] is coming home, normally as a woman you should be happy that your husband is coming home but I would just starched up and doped up so that no matter what he says, no matter what he’s doing, I’m just looking at him. Just so that there would be peace.”
The actress, who hails from Edo State, disclosed that she eventually decided to leave the marriage after her ceaseless prayers and fasting failed to change her husband’s behavior.
“I was green, I no know anything. I was a mumu. I was 22 when I got married. My ex-husband told me that ‘I’m not your friend, I’m your lord,” she added.
Etinosa’s brave revelation sheds light on the challenging circumstances she faced in her marriage and highlights the importance of raising awareness about domestic violence and its impact on individuals’ well-being.
