It’s becoming increasingly difficult to see today’s match between Manchester United and Liverpool taking place, as the protests at Old Trafford this afternoon begin to turn violent.
It happened when a large group of people blocked the entrance to the Lowry Hotel, where Manchester United players and workers are staying ahead of the Liverpool clash at Old Trafford.
As they stepped onto the pitch, fans chanted “we want Glazers out” and “United, United.” Thousands of fans had gathered outside Old Trafford for an organized rally against the Glazer family’s attempts to get United into the European Super League.
A part of the crowd even managed to storm the stadium’s exits, breach security, and gain access to the pitch. The team bus’s departure from central Manchester to Old Trafford was postponed as police attempted to reclaim the streets and restore order.

Protesters threw smoke bombs outside the Lowry and Old Trafford to express their dissatisfaction. Last month, United was one of six Premier League clubs to sign up for the doomed project. Following an angry backlash from the broader football community, they all withdrew 48 hours later.
Meanwhile, Man United vs. Liverpool has been postponed following a breach at Old Trafford during fan protests against the ownership of the Glazer family, with a rescheduled date yet to be announced
